The Butler women once again used a lockdown defensive effort to shut down Dodge City in a 68-44 win on Wednesday at the Power Plant.
The game marked the fifth time in Jayhawk Conference action that Butler has held an opponent under 50 points this season. Three of those have come in Butler’s last five games.
Early on, Butler’s defense struggled, as Dodge City would hit a pair of 3-pointers and take an 8-7 lead.
Butler still led by eight going into halftime, 29-21.
In the second half, the Grizzlies slowly stretched the lead, going up by 18 at the end of the third quarter and eventually pushing the lead over 20 points late in the fourth quarter.
Mattingly led Butler with 19 points, while Ransom scored 14 points off the bench for the Grizzlies.
Butler is now 16-7 overall and 13-7 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Grizzlies go on the road Saturday to face Hutchinson.
