City Reminds Residents Of Scavenging Ordinance

EL DORADO — The city would like to remind residents of the scavenging ordinance after receiving several calls pertaining to it.

“We have had several calls regarding the Scavenging Ordinance so I have attached it below. Most of the calls have been people asking how to enforce it because they are concerned with the mess being left after people go through the items. If you see someone please get their tag number if possible, if not call dispatch with make, model & color of vehicle along with last location last seen and ask for an officer to please respond,” the city posted to social media.

The ordinances read as following:

8.04.150 – Scavenging prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to scavenge or otherwise collect targeted recyclable or solid waste materials at the curb or from commercial trash or recyclable containers with in the city limits.

8.04.160 – Violation—Penalty.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100.00). Any permit issued pursuant to any requirement within this chapter, may be rescinded upon conviction of any provision of this chapter.
