County services limited as computer repairs continue

EL DORADO – County services continue to take a hit following the cyber attack that disabled computer services over the weekend. As reported Tuesday, some county employees found their computer services inaccessible upon reporting to work earlier this week.

“Butler County services are still limited due to a Ransomware attack on our County computer network.  All offices continue to remain open but services requiring the use of a computer continue to be limited at this time.  The County continues to work with third party vendors to restore our systems and we anticipate bringing some services back on line tomorrow with the remaining services later in the week.” the county said in a release on Tuesday. “The primary goal of the County is to get limited Motor Vehicle, Driver’s License and Register of Deeds operations up by the end of the day tomorrow in El Dorado. The Augusta Western Office will remain closed, and we will notify the public as soon as possible when it is expected to reopen.  Email availability for County staff will remain down through the end of the week and we anticipate having email services restored by early next week.”

County officials continue to limit services out of an abundance of caution.

“IT staff continues to make great strides as we have restored some operations, but continue to limit our connectivity to the internet until we are 100% sure the original breach is eliminated.  The County wants to emphasize that we do not believe any public or private information was stolen from the County during this cyberattack. We continue to ask the public to be patient with staff as we deal with this problem as it is an extremely tedious process.” the County continued. “The County will post information via social media and through press releases with the media as more information becomes available. For information on closings or limited available services, individuals may contact Departments directly or call our main line at 316-322-4300.”
