Margaret Raney

Margaret Faye (Therwhanger) Raney was born on July 21, 1924, in Klondyke, Dawson County, Texas, to GB Therwhanger, Sr. and Eula (Smith) Therwhanger.
She finished her course here and entered into the presence of her Savior on November 17, 2017, having reached the age of 93 years.

Margaret spent her childhood and youth growing up in West Texas. After graduation from high school, she went to Washington, DC, where she worked at various government agencies during the late 1940s and early 1950s.  On May 6, 1956, she married Billy Jack Raney in Weinert, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1986.

Margaret worked in various capacities throughout her lifetime and served in the Foster Grandparent program for several years in Springfield, MO. She was an avid reader and loved sports, mainly baseball. Her favorite activity was time with her grandchildren, and her favorite title was “Grandma.” She was a faithful member of the Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado, KS, for the last 11 years.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Twila (Ron) Jones of El Dorado, KS;
son Byron (Joanna) Raney of Oxnard, CA; 3 grandchildren: Candice (Jose) Santos of Thousand Oaks, CA; Rachel (Ryan) Wehr of El Dorado, KS; and Stephen (Megan) Jones of Amarillo, TX; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Truman Therwhanger of Sulphur Springs, TX; and Billy Therwhanger of Llano, TX; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Louise Dossey, Sarah Simmons, and Marcelle Zingerman; 3 brothers, JT Therwhanger, GB Therwhanger, Jr., and Bobby Therwhanger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church, 925 N. Douglas Rd., El Dorado with Pastor Ron Jones officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Temple Baptist Church Missions Fund, 925 N. Douglas Rd., El Dorado, KS 67042.
