EL DORADO — For the past several years El Dorado has been looking at its community housing needs.
Several surveys facilitated by El Dorado Inc., showed a need for 2 or 3 bedroom homes and low to medium income rental housing was needed. Here is an update to several projects started by the city and El Dorado Inc., to meet those needs. Courtesy of El Dorado Inc.
2016 MIH (Moderate Income Housing) Grant through the KHRC- Recipients Walnut Street Properties, LLC broke ground on a 4 duplex moderate income rental project on Walnut Street in early September. Each of the eight units will be 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. The pad sites are now being prepared for construction and completion is estimated to be in late spring 2018.
2017 MIH Grant application- An application for 12 to 19 housing units was submitted on September 15 to Kansas Housing Resource Corporation. The grant application of $190,000 proposes downpayment assistance for moderate income families interested in new construction with a cost less than $200K or as gap-filler for developers building moderate income rental housing. Grant notification should be forthcoming by January 2018.
Griler Addition to see new rental housing units soon! Plans are underway for the construction of 2 triplex and 3 duplex units in the Griler Addition located between 3rd and 6th Avenues and Norris and Metcalf Streets. Units will range from 2 bedroom with 1 car garage to 3 bedroom with two car garages. All units will feature washer/dryer hook ups with yard maintenance provided by the landlord.
