AUGUSTA — Water contact is temporarily suspended at Santa Fe Lake until further notice.
Lake officials are having the water tested for potential blue-green algae. The algae can make people sick and be fatal to animals by releasing a neurotoxin into the water. There hasn’t been an algae warning or advisory issued for the lake yet this year although several have been listed by Kansas Department of Health and Environment as being infested by an algae bloom.
Trails are still safe although swimming, wading, floating, skiing, tubing, paddle boarding and utilizing personal water craft on the lake has been stopped until further notice. Test results are expected back on Wednesday and an update will be issued.
