Tracy Hackett of El Dorado posted on Facebook that it would be nice to not have to worry about a food bill this Christmas. Little did she know that Santa was checking his Facebook too.
A good samaritan saw Hackett’s post and called in an order to Walnut Valley Packing to provide meat to her family this holiday season.
“I thought at first it was a joke, so I drove to Walnut Valley Packing and it wasn’t a joke,” Hackett said. “I got to my car and cried all the way home plus more.”
The gift, Hackett said means her 8-year-old Santa will be extra nice to her 8-year-old son this year.
“My son will get to have ‘Santa’ come for Christmas due to not having the expense of as many groceries,” Hackett said.
Last week Walnut Valley Packing got a call for 20 pounds of mixed meat. The caller wanted to remain anonymous said Megan Bahner office manager at Walnut Valley Packing. After gathering the order, Matt Carselowey, Bahner’s brother, Facebooked Hackett to tell her there was a package waiting for her at the store.
“It was pretty awesome,” Bahner said of the whole experience. “There were tears in her eyes and she was very grateful. There are some good people out there!”
Hackett has her suspicions on who her secret Santa was, but is ok they chose to remain a secret.
“I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart,” Hackett said. “It lifted a huge weight off my families shoulders with everything we had to go through this year.”
Hackett said her family tires to help people out as much as possible and now will look for ways to give back in her Santa’s honor in the future.
Bahner said this is the first time someone has ordered a surprise package from Walnut Valley, but she hopes more do in the future.
