Turner’s Donuts to open Augusta location

AUGUSTA — Turner’s is bringing their doughy confections to Augusta opening a second location at 507 State Street.

While no opening date has been set yet, the operators Anthony Turner and Chelsea Jones have been working to get the restaurant ready for customers. They hope to be open around the end of the month depending on when distributors for coffee and soft drinks can deliver product and equipment.

“It’s been my dream to own and run a donut shop,” Turner said. “Augusta doesn’t have one. My parents used to run the Daylight Donuts here awhile back.”

Now his parents run the shop at 405 N. Main St., in El Dorado. Success at that location for the past two years has allowed Anthony the chance to open his own location.

“It’ll be my store, but our donuts made from our own recipe,” Anthony said.

He plans to add to his menu with bierocks, cheese steak pockets, ham and cheese pockets and veals along with jalapeño rolls. Other savory dishes include biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches. The biggest question with opening is whether or not to be open past noon to serve a lunch crowd.

“I’ll need to as the people of Augusta if that would be something they’d be interested in supporting,” Anthony said.

The duo has been asking residents what they hope to see served at Turner’s. So far the overwhelming answer is bear claws, long Johns and pine cones. Also a possibility is snack items people can grab and take to go.

“The community has been very supportive,” Anthony said. “I’m shocked about how supportive they’ve been. I’ve had the support of my dad to get this going. The downfall is just waiting to open.”

Both Anthony and Chelsea said they are most excited about serving customers and getting to know people.

Also excited for the opening of “her” donut shop is 4-year-old Cambrigh Jones. Her mom Chelsea said she’s been practicing to be a waitress. She’s also been helping the couple re-finish the floors in the restaurant.
