USD 490 donates over 2,000 items to “Stuff The Truck”

EL DORADO – On December 6, USD 490, Walmart and the Salvation Army partnered for the annual Stuff the Truck event. Nearly 2,000 non-perishable food items and toys were donated by USD 490 families this year.

USD 490 schools collected food, toys and coats during the week leading up to the event and provided musical entertainment throughout the day.

Various choir, band, orchestra and cheer groups from El Dorado schools braved the chilly weather to promote a spirit of giving by delivering their school’s donations and performing songs for the community.

“Whether it is a $.69 can of soup or singing a carol, the importance of looking beyond your own front door and thinking of others is a critical character component,” said Sue Givens, USD 490 Superintendent.

Students placed donated items in the truck on their way to the risers.

Parents and other members of the community stopped to listen and show their support during the performances.

Many spectators went inside and purchased toys or food to donate after listening to a few songs.

“It is important to know that you can give something, anything, to make improvements for others,” said Givens.

There were a few cold noses after the performances, but there will be many warm hearts from both the giving and receiving of the donated items in our generous community.
