Wildcats hungry for victory after Rose Hill loss

Tonight, it is a tale of two evenly matched teams headed to the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, both with a record of 2-3. After falling at Rose Hill last week, the Wildcats have had seven days to lick their wounds and hopefully get back to winning ways against a Bulldog team that has seen its share of struggles.

Independence has gone up and down, and from one extreme to the other. They beat Anderson County 56-14 last week, but that came off the heels of a 50-0 shutout at the hands of Basehor-Linwood the week prior. The other win Independence has to it’s credit is a 56-50 shootout over nearby Parsons.

It will be an interesting match in El Dorado tonight.

Circle hasn’t given up the fight, but no one would blame them for at least letting the thought cross their mind. The Thunderbirds have been outscored 123-14 in their last three games, but were at least able to get on the board between two clashes with ranked teams like McPherson and Coffeyville.

Tonight Andover Central comes into town, fresh off two losses in a row. Two weeks ago, it was a 39-7 loss to arch rival Andover, and last week the Jaguars ran out of steam trying to hold off the Pittsburg Purple Dragons. At 1-4, Central does hold a win over Abilene, and they’ll hope to double their numbers in the “W” column at Towanda tonight.

Augusta quickly bounced back from an embarrassing shutout loss to McPherson by winning on the road at Chanute last week, and tonight they’ll look to carry that momentum into week six as Buhler is in town for homecoming. It should be an entertaining event as both teams are 4-1 coming into tonight’s ballgame.

Buhler’s one loss came to the same team Augusta’s did, as the McPherson Bullpups beat them in week one 33-21. They have reeled off five wins in a row at this point, thumping Winfield last week 40-0. Tonight’s verdict is anyone’s call.

The Trojans badly need a win tonight, and the Newton Railers will provide their best shot at it. Andover last week lost 14-10 to Campus in a game on the road, and they return home to the friendly confines of District Stadium to face a Newton team that comes to town with the exact same record.

Newton does have some momentum coming their way following their 42-20 win over Salina Central last week. Their three losses on the season have been to Valley Center, Hutch, and Maize.
