Bill’s life began on November 5, 1924 in Kansas City, MO. He is the son of John Paul and Frances (Montgall) Jones. Bill received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Agriculture at Kansas State. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Europe as part of the 65th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Expert Combat Infantryman’s badge for actions on the Fulda river and earned the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained in the assault of Neumarkt, Germany. Bill worked as chemist at the El Dorado Pester Refinery for many years. He was united in marriage to the former Grace Hampton on September 2, 1951 in El Dorado.
Bill was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed the Bradford Memorial Library. His loving family includes his children Larry (Pam) Jones of Olathe, Don Jones of Hutchinson, and Beth Lovette of Emporia; grandchildren Lisa (Paul) Sochinski, Lori (Sam) Tovar, William B. (Tasha) Jones, Kaitlyn (David) Schnackenberg, and Megan Jones; great grandchildren Hannah, Mya and Lucas Tovar and Gavin and Kaelyn Jones. Bill died on Saturday November 4, 2017 in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace and daughter Paula Jones.
His family will gather with friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Bill will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery with military honors.
